Friday & the weekend: Chilly, with frost and freeze possible at times
We’ve got another chilly weekend ahead, and this time some frosty conditions are expected. Skies will clear tonight, and with light to calm winds expected, solid radiational cooling conditions are probable, allowing temperatures to fall into the mid-30s across much of the metro. This could prompt frost issues in Charleston proper, while places such as Dorchester and inland Berkeley may see a freeze. Thus, a Freeze Warning is up for early Friday morning for inland Berkeley and Dorchester, and a Frost Advisory is in effect for Charleston and tidal Berkeley (Daniel Island, Cainhoy). Be ready to protect plants and pets!
Despite much more sunshine than we’ve seen the past few days, Friday’s highs will still struggle into the mid-50s given the chilly airmass in place. Temperatures once again venture down into the 30s on Saturday morning, and frost and freeze alerts are possible once again as a result. Suspect you’ll want to keep your plants in through at least Sunday, as a general rule.
Clouds return to the picture Saturday into Sunday, but we will remain rain-free given relatively dry air near the surface. The cloud cover will put a damper on high temperatures, generally keeping them in the mid-to-upper 50s (warmer Saturday). Lows on Sunday morning will run several degrees warmer, though, generally in the mid-40s thanks to the blanket of cloud cover inhibiting better radiational cooling.
We look to get a little warmer next week, but overall, temperatures generally will run about 5° below normal heading into Thanksgiving. We could be contending with some rain for turkey travel, too, but stay tuned as the details get ironed out.
