Rest of the work week: More afternoon and evening storms before a quieter Friday

/ June 6, 2023 at 10:39 PM

The summertime feel continues into Wednesday, as temperatures look to top out in the low 90s in the afternoon before thunderstorms develop once again in the afternoon thanks to a combination of the seabreeze and a backdoor front that slowly approaches the area throughout the day. A few stronger storms are possible with gusty winds and hail, so be on the lookout if you have evening plans to celebrate getting over the hump.

Shower and thunderstorm chances return Thursday evening, though temperatures will run significantly cooler as the aforementioned front pushes southward through the area. Highs should only top out in the mid-80s as a result. Even still, expect a round of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours as a piece of energy rounds the upper trough that continues to hang around across the eastern US. (This will help keep those highs suppressed, too.)

Drier high pressure builds in for Friday, nudges the front further south, and yields quite a nice day with highs topping out in the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies. We’ll keep the good weather going into much of the weekend, with only an isolated storm chance Sunday afternoon and evening and highs warming into the upper 80s, right around normal for this point in the year.
