Thursday: Another warm day before the heat turns up for the holiday weekend
After the first 95° reading of the year on Wednesday, we’ll likely repeat that on Thursday, with plenty more 90s to come as we head into the holiday weekend. Downslope flow should once again keep dewpoints in the mid-60s, thus keeping heat indices in check as well. Expect partly cloudy skies — and as always, a shower can’t be totally discounted — but overall expect a rain-free, warm day.
Friday & the weekend: Turning up the humidity along with the heat
We’ll see humidity begin to creep back up for Friday and the weekend as moisture returns to the area. This will drive heat indices to around 100° on Friday, near 105° on Saturday, and perhaps approaching 110° on Sunday. As ridging builds across the area, we could see even warmer air temperatures, too, with mid-to-upper 90s becoming common as we head into the July 4th weekend. The fly in the ointment could be afternoon thunderstorms, but the aforementioned ridging will keep those few and far between until the ridge flattens out somewhat heading into the middle of next week.
Tropical update: One area of interest, but no concerns here at home
The National Hurricane Center is watching a little surface trough around 62°W and 27°N moving northward around 5-10 MPH for possible development. It looks unlikely at this point — the odds are generally around 20% for the next week — and even if it does, it’s going to stay well away from us here at home.
