The week ahead: Hot start with on and off storms
The week ahead gets off to a hot start as westerly winds keep the seabreeze close to the coast for much of the day, driving highs into the mid-to-upper 90s on Monday afternoon. Mix in low-70s dewpoints and heat indices will peak above 105° in the afternoon. From there, a thunderstorm complex will approach the area from the northwest, but it should get here toward the evening and be in a weakening phase as a result. A strong wind gust or two can’t be ruled out, though, especially the further inland you are.
Tuesday runs even warmer in the heat index department, with highs in the mid-90s and dewpoints in the mid-70s yielding heat indices between 105-110°. A heat advisory isn’t off the table for Tuesday if storms hold off a little later. There will be another scattering of storms as a front pushes into the area from the north, and a few of those could be on the strong wide with a damaging wind gust or two possible.
Wednesday will offer a brief reprieve of sorts as dewpoints head toward 70° for much of the day. Highs in the low 90s will still yield heat indices near 100°, but that’ll still run about 5-10° cooler than Tuesday. As the seabreeze pushes in, a few showers and thunderstorms will be possible, but overall, expect Wednesday to feature the lowest rain chances this week.
Rain chances tick back up for Thursday and beyond as a trough moves by. Temperatures will continue to run on the warm side of normal for early August, with highs generally running in the low-to-mid-90s and lows in the upper 70s expected.
