Rest of the work week: Freeze warning Wednesday morning, frost possible Thursday…and 70s on Friday

/ November 28, 2023 at 7:41 PM

A Freeze Warning is in effect for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Expect temperatures to fall into the 20s inland of 17-A, with temperatures around 30° in much of the rest of the metro area. Places closer to the water such as downtown and the islands should stay just above freezing, though frost will be a concern there as well. Bring in your sensitive plants and make sure your pets have a warm place to be tonight.

After the morning frost and freeze on Wednesday, temperatures should warm only to the mid-50s despite mostly sunny skies, owing to the Arctic airmass that’ll be taking at least brief residence here. Wednesday night into Thursday won’t be quite as cold, but freezing temperatures are possible again inland and at least some frost can be expected across the metro as well as temperatures dip to the low-to-mid-30s. (It remains to be seen whether frost and freeze products will be issued. If NWS deems the growing season over after Wednesday morning’s freeze, there will be no frost or freeze alerts until March, when the growing season resumes.)

Thursday afternoon will run a little warmer as the core of the cold airmass moves away and some warmer air starts to move back in. Expect highs to warm to the low 60s under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Friday will be much warmer with lows in the mid-40s and highs topping out in the low 70s, though that will come with the risk for some scattered showers beginning in the afternoon. Shower chances tick up and last through the weekend, though at least the 70s will stick around and it won’t be 48° and rainy!
