The week ahead: Very warm start to April followed by a below-normal cooldown

/ March 31, 2024 at 10:59 PM

We’ll get April off to an almost early June-like start before a front comes through Wednesday and knocks temperatures down to more comfortable levels heading into Bridge Run weekend. (In fact, many of y’all might find it a little chilly!)

But first, Monday. We’ll start the day in the low 60s, about 10° above normal for April 1, before warming to the mid-80s in the afternoon under partly cloudy skies. The record high for April 1 of 86° set in 2010 is certainly in jeopardy, so we’ll want to keep an eye on that. Tuesday looks similar to Monday, perhaps with a few more clouds, but once again starting in the low-to-mid-60s and warming to the mid-80s in the afternoon. We’ll be in striking distance of the record warm low temperature of 65° set in 2012. However, the daily high temperature record for April 2 (91° set in 2012) will be a harder reach, and would require us to hit the 90s for the first time this year, which seems unlikely.

The only unsettled weather in this seven-day forecast arrives overnight Tuesday into Wednesday as a cold front moves by. Showers and maybe a few thunderstorms will be possible, but severe weather is not expected. Temperatures top out around 80° after a very warm start in the mid-60s before the front gets through in the afternoon and early evening hours.

From there, a period of quiet and sunny weather featuring cooler-than-normal temperatures commences, and will stick with us through the weekend. Expect lows in the 40s yielding to highs in the 60s each day through Saturday, with low 70s possible Sunday. It’ll be a chilly start for the Bridge Run, but at least y’all won’t be sweltering.

Programming note

Posts will remain sporadic this week with the podcast on hiatus likely through next week as it’s a busy week for me with family in town. I’m expecting to be back to a regular schedule roughly around mid-April if not sooner! Thanks again, y’all, for bearing with me during this rather challenging period in my life.
