The week ahead: A seasonable Christmas with a few shower chances at times

/ December 22, 2024 at 11:13 PM

We start the holiday week off on a chilly note. Expect subfreezing temperatures inland of the coast Monday morning, with wind chills in the low 20s expected. We could even see those wind chills drop below 20° further inland, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory for inland Berkeley and Dorchester counties from 4-9am. Cloud cover will build across the area throughout the day Monday, with even a stray shower possible at the coast. Highs will remain well below normal, with low 50s expected at best.

Shower chances increase overnight Monday into Tuesday as a coastal low develops, especially near the coast. It’ll be a chilly rain at times, with lows bottoming out in the low 40s. Shower chances diminish as the day goes on, though, with cloud cover decreasing as well. Highs peak in the mid-50s, and we should be rain-free for sleigh aviators. We’ll keep rain-free conditions in place for Christmas Day into Thursday, with temperatures running around normals for late December — low 40s to start the day, low 60s for highs.

Shower chances return on Friday and hang around through the weekend as high pressure gradually loses control and more moisture moves in. It’ll turn warmer, too, with highs in the upper 60s expected for the final weekend of 2024.
