Weekend forecast: More record warmth possible, especially Sunday

/ February 7, 2025 at 8:09 PM

It was an incredibly warm February day in the Lowcountry, skipping ahead from a spring preview to an early summer preview as the high topped out around 84° at the airport. This high temperature obliterated the old daily record of 80° set in 2019, and was 22° above normal for February 7.

Record warmth will remain possible this weekend, especially on Sunday, before temperatures moderate (but remain above normal) as the pattern turns a little more unsettled for next week.

Saturday doesn’t look quite as warm as Friday was, but that’s not to say that it won’t still be as warm as highs should peak in the upper 70s to near 80°, which threatens another daily high temperature record (80° set in 2019). Of course, if you are heading to the beaches, prepare for much, much cooler conditions with water temperatures still in the low to mid-50s! Partly cloudy skies should generally be the rule as a stalled front hangs out nearby. A shower or two might not be out of the question further north and west, too, but much of us should get the day in rain-free, especially as the front lifts further away from the area as a warm front as we get into the afternoon.

Another cold front will be approaching the area on Sunday. Ahead of that front, we’ll start in the mid-50s, warming to around 80° in the afternoon. If 80° is realized, we’ll at least tie the daily high temperature record for February 9 set in 1949. Shower chances will head up as we get into the afternoon as the cold front stalls out to our north before getting a push through the area overnight/early Monday morning, but rainfall amounts should generally be light.

Temperatures will fall a good bit for Monday and beyond, though will still remain a few degrees above normal as an unsettled pattern takes shape, bringing us some rain (which we could use) for a good bit of the upcoming work week. But let’s not think about such things like “upcoming work weeks” right now — enjoy your weekend!
