Friday & the weekend: Front moves by Friday, cooler and quieter over the weekend

Unsettled weather makes a brief return to the area overnight into Friday as a cold front works its way toward the coast. We’ll start the day on the mild — and perhaps the wet — side as temperatures bottom out just to around the mid-to-upper 50s. We’ll warm to the mid-70s in the afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms continuing to affect the area. Severe weather looks highly unlikely at this stage with meager instability, thankfully. Showers and thunderstorms will end by evening as the front moves by, setting the stage for a cool but quiet weekend.
Cooler and drier air will be settling into the area on Saturday, though we should see an enhancement in the cumulus field during the day as a trough lingers aloft. The explicit shower chances that have been advertised for Saturday over the past few days were removed from today’s forecast update, though, so that’s a bit of good news, but I’m still not sure I would totally rule out a few light radar returns. Temperatures will run several degrees below normal, with an upper 40s start yielding to highs just around 70° in the afternoon.
Sunday will start out a little cooler, but end up a little warmer, too, as the airmass moderates a little bit. The lack of sky cover will certainly allow Sunday to live up to its name, with nary a cloud expected as deep-layer dry air remains in place. We start the day in the mid-to-upper 40s, warming to the low 70s in the afternoon with low humidity, making for another beautiful spring day in the Lowcountry (albeit still a touch cooler than normal, which some of you will probably welcome!)
If you prefer the 80s, they make a brief return early next week before temperatures get knocked back to near if not slightly below normal next Wednesday and Thursday.
