Weekend forecast: Very hot, nary a shower or storm

/ July 18, 2025 at 7:35 PM

We’ve got a rather hot weekend ahead as high pressure builds in overhead and at the surface. We can expect temperatures each day to head into the upper 90s each afternoon, with heat indices surging to around 110° in spots especially in the immediate wake of the seabreeze.

Low temperatures will be downright balmy as it is, with lows bottoming out in the upper 70s on Saturday and struggling below 80° on Sunday. The lack of relief overnight will increase heat stress, especially for folks who don’t have access to reliable air conditioning or may otherwise be vulnerable to heat. The experimental HeatRisk index is in the Major category for both Saturday and Sunday as a result of the hot temperatures and very mild nights.

Precipitation will be tough to come by, particularly on Saturday when the ridge is strongest. We see the ridge begin to weaken a touch on Sunday, which could allow a couple showers or storms to break through, but overall, don’t expect showers or storms to really impart much relief this weekend. That will begin to change next week as the ridge breaks down and retrogrades westward, so if there’s any silver lining here, it’s that this intense heat doesn’t last for too long.
