The week ahead: Cold returns, but will be short-lived

Winter makes a brief return to the Lowcountry to start the final week of February, but temperatures look to rebound for the second half of the week, albeit with some shower chances.
Monday will be another breezy and rather cold day (especially in comparison with recent temperatures). We’ll start the day around 30°, but gusty winds still pushing 25+ MPH at times will drive wind chills to the upper teens at times, especially away from the coast. This has prompted a Cold Weather Advisory until 9am. From there, the gusts will subside a bit more, but it’ll remain a bit breezy as cold air continues to move into the area. Highs may not crack 50° despite nearly full sunshine, so be sure you’re dressed warmly throughout the day.
Tuesday starts even colder, with lows dipping into the mid-20s as calmer winds and clear skies help promote better radiational cooling. However, we will also start to see temperatures begin to moderate through the day, with highs topping out in the low-to-mid-50s in the afternoon — still on the cool side, but the start of a warming trend that will take highs back to the 70° mark by Thursday. The next front looks to affect the area on Friday, bringing the best chance for showers this week as a band of precipitation should develop ahead of the front.
There are some signals for some sort of high pressure wedge to try to develop which may impact the weekend temperature forecast, but right now we can expect warmer-than-normal weather as we begin March — and, for that matter, meteorological spring. Shower chances remain a little elevated with the potential for a coastal trough to take shape, but I wouldn’t cancel any plans at this juncture as the forecast needs time to evolve.
