The week ahead: Warmth peaks mid-week, then a little cooler

/ March 8, 2026 at 10:30 PM

The stretch of abnormally warm, 80°+ days continues for the first half of the upcoming work week before a cold front knocks temperatures back a little bit as we head into the weekend.

Sunday ended up being the warmest day thus far in 2026, with a high of 84° at the airport — just two degrees off the record of 86° set in 1974. We also had a round of showers and thunderstorms driven by a disturbance aloft and a stalling cold front to the west. We’ll stay quieter on Monday with just some clouds at times with the aforementioned stalled front starting to fall apart a bit. Temperatures will once again remain overwhelmingly on the warm side of normal, with lows in the low 60s warming to the low 80s in the afternoon.

Another impulse approaches Tuesday and may kick up some showers during the day. Temperatures will remain quite warm, with highs in the low-to-mid-80s expected. Wednesday will be the warmest of the set, when highs should peak in the mid-80s under partly cloudy skies.

Changes are afoot as we head into Thursday; a cold front will have a little bit more oomph behind it this go-around and will get through later in the day, bringing showers and maybe even a thunderstorm or two. Highs Thursday should stick to a rain-cooled mid-70s. Friday will be noticeably cooler behind the front, but otherwise much closer to normal for mid-March as lows in the mid-40s warm to around 70° with plenty of sunshine. The cooldown doesn’t last terribly long heading into the weekend, though, with upper 70s returning for Saturday. A backdoor front looks to drop in from the north on Sunday, which may bring about a few showers, but otherwise we stay warmer than normal with highs peaking in the upper 70s once more.
