The week ahead: Seasonably warm, shower chances this weekend

/ October 23, 2022 at 9:49 PM

Warm weather fans, this will be a little better week for you as temperatures will run closer to, if not slightly above, normal at times.

We start the week with another day of comfortable temperatures and mostly sunny skies. There will be a little chill in the air Monday morning, but that will be short-lived as temperatures head to the mid-70s in the afternoon. Expect temperatures to start out a little warmer on Tuesday, with highs once again topping out in the mid-70s as a cold front begins to approach the area.

Said front gets closer on Wednesday; as it gets closer, winds swing southwesterly and helps bring some warmer air into the area. As a result, highs will head up a touch above normal and could flirt with 80° in the afternoon. There will be a chance for a few showers as the front passes by, too.

The front, though, doesn’t do a whole lot to sensible weather as temperatures dip down just a couple degrees — mid-70s instead of upper 70s — under partly cloudy skies for Thursday and Friday.

Showers will be possible this weekend as high pressure wedges down into the area and moisture begins to lift over the top of it. This will keep temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s each afternoon with relatively mild morning starts thanks to the cloud cover. We’ll see just how much rain develops — a lot of this will depend on Gulf low pressure to the west — so stay tuned to forecast updates.

Coastal flooding possible this week into the weekend

Astronomical influences (new moon, lunar perigee) will elevate tides this week. Right now, minor coastal flooding looks possible with morning high tides starting Wednesday. With a wedge of high pressure building down later toward the weekend turning winds more to the northeast, expect the risk for coastal flooding around high tide to continue to hang around perhaps into early next week.
