Friday & the weekend: Windy Friday, clearing Saturday, cooler Sunday

/ March 2, 2023 at 6:41 PM

Changes are coming in the forecast as we get through the weekend as the abnormal warmth for this point in the year finally starts to get blunted a bit.

Friday will continue to run into the low 80s in the afternoon ahead of a cold front that’ll be moving into the area later in the evening. The big weather issue for Friday will be winds: gusts 30-40 MPH will be common across the area, with even higher gusts possible on bridges. Keep a grip on the steering wheel tomorrow, and maybe take some time tonight to secure loose items from outside.

Attention will then turn to the risk for some showers and maybe a thunderstorm after sunset Friday. The overall severe weather threat is low, but given the wind fields in place, it may not take much to bring down a couple trees or power lines. Poor thermodynamics and a lack of lift will keep a lid on a more robust severe weather threat.

We clear out Saturday; despite the frontal passage, temperatures will still run in the upper 70s in the afternoon. Another front will come through late Saturday/early Sunday, and this one will bring along more noticeable cool air. Sunday will start in the low 50s, while highs top out in the low 70s — still above normal, but much cooler than we’ve seen in recent weeks. The only impediment to outdoor activities will be the constant stream of reproductive bliss emanating from the various trees, especially juniper and elm. It’s not looking good for a pollen reprieve over the next few days, either. Keep the allergy meds flowing!
