We have another chilly day ahead Thursday as we’ll once again start the day below freezing, though perhaps not to the degree we saw across the area Wednesday morning, when Charleston International Airport dropped to 27°, the coldest temperature this year and the coldest it’s been since December 28, 2022.

A warming trend will commence Thursday as highs head to the upper 50s under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies as ridging moves overhead. While you’ll still want a jacket, it might not need to be as heavy!

Friday: Back to the 60s

Friday will continue the warming trend as high pressure continues to ridge in overhead and slip offshore a little at the surface. It’ll be the first morning in a few days that we don’t start at freezing in most spots (though I wouldn’t be shocked to see more rural locations touch the freezing mark). Under a mix of sun and mostly high clouds, temperatures will head into the low 60s.

Christmas weekend: Warming trend continues, but unsettled weather looms

The warming trend continues heading into the holiday weekend, with temperatures solidly on the warm side of normal leading up to Christmas Day.

There’s no grievances to air about Saturday’s weather: lows in the low 40s yielding to highs in the mid-60s under partly cloudy skies will make for a fantastic Festivus for the rest of us as high pressure remains in control. We’ll start to see that slip a little bit on Christmas Eve, though. While temperatures will run even warmer, cloud cover will begin increasing ahead of our next storm system, which looks to affect the area on Christmas Day and beyond with shower chances increasing Monday afternoon and evening. We’re still in the medium range with that part of the forecast, so stay tuned for more details on potential travel impacts in the coming days. (The good news is that there is no sign of a nor’easter repeat.)
