The sun comes back out on Thursday with the upper low long gone, and this leads to a nice warmup for Thursday. After starting the day in the mid-to-upper 30s, we’ll warm to the low-to-mid-60s for the start of February. Overall, no major weather concerns to kick off the month, and that ain’t bad.

Friday & the weekend: Temperatures fluctuate, but generally quiet

We’ll warm up a bit on Groundhog Day as high pressure slips offshore ahead of a quiet frontal passage Friday night. Temperatures start around 40° and warm to the upper 60s under partly cloudy skies. We’ll see an uptick in cloud cover in association with the aforementioned front, but we’ll stay rain-free with very limited moisture to work with.

Saturday will start in the low 40s, but we’ll run a little cooler in the afternoon despite less cloud cover. Temperatures should top out in the low 60s in the afternoon as high pressure cuts across the Northeast and briefly wedges into the area.

We should get a fair bit of Sunday in rain-free, though showers will become possible later in the day into the evening as low pressure advancing across the Gulf Coast approaches the area. We’ll start the day in the low-to-mid-40s once again and top out about in the mid-60s as winds start to strengthen out of the east and northeast as the low to our southwest butts up against the high to the northeast.

The most significant rainfall from the storm system should fall overnight Sunday into Monday. Guidance has been fairly persistent in developing an area of heavier rain that could clip parts of the Lowcountry depending on the track of the low. The east to northeast wind direction will also behoove us to monitor water level forecasts for Monday, though it’ll be a bit of a lift to get to flood stage as we’ll be a few days out from the new moon next Friday. Regardless, stay tuned for forecast updates as Monday could be breezy and soggy.
