We have a chilly night ahead as clearing skies and light winds allow for good radiational cooling conditions. This should allow morning lows on Tuesday to reach freezing for the first time since January 22, when we started the day at a frigid 23°. It won’t be quite as cold — freezing temperatures in the metro would be relatively short-lived — but with some light wind in the morning, it’ll feel more like the upper 20s as we get back to regular order after Washington’s Birthday. There will be plenty of sunshine, though, and that’ll help counteract some cooler air continuing to filter into the area, allowing highs to top out in the low 60s once again.

Rest of the work week: Warming up, with some showers Friday

A warming trend will commence beginning Wednesday, peaking on Friday ahead of a cold front. We start Wednesday in the mid-to-upper 30s once again before warming to the low-to-mid-60s in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies, generally within spitting distance of, if not slightly on the cool side of, mid-to-late February norms. More sunshine is on tap for Thursday, and the airmass will begin to noticeably moderate, warming to the upper 60s in the afternoon. Clouds will be on the increase overnight Thursday into Friday as the aforementioned cold front makes its trek across the area. Friday starts noticeably warmer than Thursday, with lows in the low to mid-50s expected, and despite increasing cloud cover, we should have no trouble reaching the low 70s in the afternoon as breezy southwesterly winds pump in warmer air. Friday will represent the only significant rain chance of the next few days as scattered showers are expected in the afternoon and evening hours, but nothing too out of bounds is expected, weather-wise. This will yield to a beautiful weekend of temperatures generally near if not slightly warmer than normal and lots of sunshine!
