The week ahead: Mostly quiet and turning unseasonably warm

/ March 10, 2024 at 9:49 PM

The week ahead will be largely marked by high pressure before the next storm system starts to affect the area just in time for St. Patrick’s weekend. (Sorry.)

We get off to a cooler-than-normal start on Monday in the wake of a reinforcing front coming by Sunday night. Temperatures start in the upper 30s before warming to the mid-60s in the afternoon under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Those temperatures will be relatively short-lived, though, as high pressure moves offshore and ridging builds in aloft. This should send temperatures well into the upper 70s by mid-week, and a few readings of 80° don’t look too far-fetched, either, especially as we get into the latter half of the week. It’ll certainly feel closer to late April than early-to-mid-March! We will stay rain-free through at least Friday morning, so some much-needed pollen rinses might not be able to happen.

As we head into late Friday and the weekend, we’ll see the ridge aloft flatten out and another storm system begin to make its move on the area. Temperatures will still remain well above normal through the weekend, but there could be showers and maybe even a few thunderstorms particularly on Saturday and Sunday. It’s too early to assess any severe weather threat, but as you’re making St. Patrick’s plans, keep the risk for showers and storms in mind. (Better to be prepared than lucky.)

Programming note: Podcast remains on hiatus for a few more days

Well, I brought back a pathogen from my work trip, and that means the Charleston Weather Daily podcast is going to stay on hiatus for a few more days while I recover. I hope to be back in the saddle later this week. Thanks for understanding, y’all!
