Tuesday: Clouds, a few showers, and a bit of unseasonable warmth
More cloud cover (with a few peeks of sun, especially early) is expected on Tuesday, but despite this, warm, humid air will continue to pump into the area ahead of a slow-moving cold front. This will make for a very mild day, with lows in the upper 50s warming to the mid-70s in the afternoon — some 10-12° above normal for December 10. We’ll also see the risk for some showers from time to time, but we’ll get rain-free time, too, especially midday.
Rest of the work week: Front moves through Wednesday
Wednesday will start on the mild side once again, with temperatures quickly heading into the low 70s in the morning as showers move into the area ahead of the aforementioned cold front. Expect rainfall amounts generally around a half-inch, with some locally heavier amounts possible as the prefrontal showers move by. The front itself moves by later in the afternoon, and that will send temperatures plummeting quickly as we get through the afternoon. We should see temps fall to around 60° before sunset, with our daytime high coming in the morning. It’ll be a windy day, too, with gusts 25-30 MPH expected (and potentially windier on bridges and overpasses).
Thursday will feel much cooler. While air temperatures across much of the metro should stay above freezing, the wind will make it feel like the upper 20s in the morning. Temperatures only head to the mid-50s in the afternoon despite sunny skies.
We’ll see cloud cover start to tick back up on Friday as high pressure wedges into the area with a coastal trough developing just offshore. Temperatures will still run on the chilly side, with lows in the mid-30s once again yielding to highs in the mid-50s in the afternoon, and those air temperatures will likely feel a little cooler than Thursday with the additional cloud cover.
