Tuesday: Sunny & warmer; 70s by the end of the week

/ January 27, 2025 at 11:05 PM

Tuesday will feel a lot better than Monday did as a front swings through with mostly a drier airmass, but not nearly as cold as the one we dealt with last week. We start the day in the upper 30s and warm to around 60° in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies. The black ice threat has ended, especially after Monday’s rain melted much of the rest of the snowpack and any lingering ice patches. If you have some snow left, it won’t be much longer, especially as we get into a warming trend this week.

Rest of the work week: Trending warmer as quiet weather lasts through Friday

Warmer-than-normal temperatures will continue for the rest of the work week (and beyond, really) as the pattern flips to favor warmer conditions here in the Southeast. Wednesday and Thursday will be generally quiet. Highs Wednesday top out in the upper 60s after a low around 40°. A dry cold front knocks temperatures down a little for Thursday, but it’ll still be comfortable with highs peaking in the low to mid-60s. 70s show up in the forecast for the first time in 2025 on Friday ahead of a cold front that could bring a few late showers Friday night. All in all, not too shabby, and the continued thaw is welcomed as we close out a month of January that should rank in the top ten coolest on record before all is said and done.

Shower chances peak Saturday and clear the area for Sunday with warmer-than-normal temperatures continuing for the forecastable future as ridging builds in aloft to start February, which if long-range guidance is any indication, looks to be a mild and occasionally wet finish to what’s been a rather chilly winter to this point.
