Thursday: It’s gonna be…partly cloud-ay

/ April 30, 2025 at 10:50 PM

May Day will be a partly cloudy affair across the Lowcountry as Atlantic high pressure continues to exert influence over our weather. We’ll start near 60° away from the locally warmer coastline, warming to the mid-80s in the afternoon. It’ll be a bit breezy especially as the seabreeze gets by in the early afternoon, but otherwise no major concerns are expected.

Friday & the weekend: Turning unsettled thanks to a cold front

High pressure will begin to lose its influence over the local weather picture on Friday as a cold front approaches for the weekend, which will make for a bit more in the way of unsettled weather (but not a total rainout, either).

Friday will run a little warmer than previous days, with lows in the low 60s to start the day. Temperatures warm into the mid-to-upper 80s with generally partly cloudy skies expected throughout the day. Once again, breezy winds generally out of the south are expected, but there are no major concerns.

As the front draws closer on Saturday, shower chances tick up, with the best risk for showers found in the afternoon into the evening, though coverage should be generally scattered. Temperatures will peak in the mid-80s on Saturday ahead of the front. This changes on Sunday, when the front arrives and eventually stalls out nearby, elevating shower and thunderstorm chances but also knocking temperatures down a few degrees, with highs only peaking in the upper 70s Sunday afternoon.

Shower chances persist with the stalled front for the first half of next week, especially Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will run at or a little below normal to start the first full week of May, but will recover as the week goes on.
