The week ahead: Warm and then turning unsettled

The upcoming week will have an early-summer feel with high pressure remaining in control for the first part of the week before a front stalls out nearby, bringing some rain chances back into the picture heading into the weekend.
Warm and humid conditions will feature prominently Monday-Wednesday. Temperatures Monday and Tuesday will run just a little above normal, but Wednesday should peak around 90°, which is about 5-6° above normal for this point in the year. Skies will generally run partly cloudy to mostly sunny with the surface high and the subtropical ridge aloft keeping a lid on any thunderstorms that might try to develop.
The ridge nudges back further into the Atlantic starting Thursday, though, allowing some slight shower and storm chances back into the forecast Thursday afternoon and evening. A front will then get close and stall out on Friday, lingering through the weekend and keeping scattered shower and thunderstorm chances in play, especially in the afternoons. It won’t be the widespread, soaking rain that we’ll need to really make a dent in the drought, but it will be better than nothing. Temperatures will continue to run above normal for mid-to-late-May, with highs generally running in the upper 80s each afternoon and lows in the lower 70s — quite summer-like.
Coastal flooding threat next couple nights, then waning
The risk for minor coastal flooding around the evening high tides continues through Monday as we get past the new moon and perigee. A Coastal Flood Advisory will run between 7-11pm tonight for a water level approaching 7.1-7.3′ MLLW with the 9:22 PM high tide. This is enough to put water on the roads around The Citadel and the Joe as well as on Lockwood. Be ready to reroute this evening.
