Somewhat drier air (aloft, anyway) moving into the area Tuesday will put an end to the soggy weather for a few days, though an isolated afternoon thunderstorm does remain possible. We start the day in the low 70s — the coolest start to a day since June 28 — before warming into the low 90s in the afternoon. While the drier air will provide for generally partly cloudy skies amidst a somewhat brilliant blue sky, it’ll still be fairly humid at the surface; expect heat indices to peak around 100° in the afternoon as the seabreeze moves by. All in all, though, we should have plenty of sun to help sop up this latest round of heavy rain.

Rest of the work week: Turning up the heat once again

After another fairly seasonably warm day on Wednesday (highs around 91° are right where climatology says they should be for this point in the year), we begin to warm up as we get closer to the weekend as the atmospheric column steadily moistens. We could see an isolated shower or storm generally each afternoon as temperatures work their way into the low 90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday will be noticeably warmer as highs top back out in the mid-90s; factor in surface dewpoints in the mid-to-upper 70s and we could be dealing with dewpoints approaching 110°. We’ll also see a slightly better chance of late afternoon and evening thunderstorms with the improved moisture. This trend continues into the weekend, with a couple more days possibly with heat indices at or over 110° expected. Don’t be surprised to hear of some Heat Advisories.

Tropical update: Mostly quiet, save for one spot that won’t bother us

The tropics remain quiet aside from one disturbance around 60°W, 34°N that has a 40% probability of developing into a tropical or subtropical depression in the next few days. Good news is that it’s going to head east to northeast into cooler water, and won’t be an issue at all for land.
