Rest of the work week: More rain chances coming

/ May 26, 2026 at 9:32 PM

More opportunities for much-needed rainfall will continue for the rest of the work week and beyond as a front approaches the area and stalls out. Warm and muggy conditions will be a mainstay as well, especially Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday starts in the mid-70s across much of the area owing to a very humid airmass. Daytime heating will send temperatures to about 90° in the afternoon. Factor the humidity in and it will feel closer to 94-96°. We should see showers and thunderstorms initiate on the seabreeze again by mid-afternoon, pushing inland with time. Some of you may see heavy downpours, while others may see nothing — so it goes with this summertime regime.

The heat will peak on Thursday as highs head well into the low 90s in the afternoon, with some compressional heating ahead of a backdoor cold front helping to drive those temperatures a little higher. Mix in the humidity, and it will feel more like the mid-to-upper 90s. As the front sags southward, though, we should see an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity, with thunderstorms becoming more likely heading into the later afternoon and evening hours. Severe weather isn’t expected, but the risk for heavy downpours will continue.

The front will begin to stall out nearby or just to the south on Friday. This will help keep temperatures running a little lower on Friday, with highs just peaking in the mid-80s. Shower and thunderstorm chances will continue, and will likely be distributed a little more equitably to boot as it will be driven more by waves of low pressure along the front rather than simply just the seabreeze. Shower and storm chances should persist into the weekend as the front meanders nearby.
