Thursday: Off to a chilly start, but plenty of sun to warm up

/ March 29, 2023 at 9:47 PM

Calm winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to fall quite nicely tonight, with lows bottoming out in the low 40s across much of the metro area to start Thursday. (Thankfully, not low enough to deal with frost or freeze concerns.) Full sunshine will allow temperatures to warm nicely into the low 70s, making for what should be a rather pleasant day across the Lowcountry.

Friday & the weekend: Temperature rollercoaster rolls on as a front moves by

The warming trend will really be noticeable Friday as highs top out just shy of 80° across the area. Clouds will be on the increase ahead of our next cold front, which looks to move through Saturday. It’ll be a breezy and warm day across the area Saturday before thunderstorms move in during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will start in the mid-60s and head into the low 80s away from the coast before the front gets by. We dry out and cool off Sunday, with seasonable temperatures starting in the mid-50s in the morning warming to low 70s in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies.

Bridge Run: Maybe a morning shower, but bulk of rain in the afternoon

It still appears that we get the Bridge Run in rain-free, though there will be a chance of showers in the morning well ahead of the front as warm air pumps into the area. It’ll be a warm, but not stiflingly hot, Bridge Run; we’ll start the day in the mid-60s and warm into the mid-70s in the afternoon in downtown Charleston as post-race festivities take place. By the afternoon, though, showers and thunderstorms should be moving into the area, which may bring some of those festivities indoors for the remainder of the day. Still plenty of time for adjustments, so stay tuned for updates as Saturday approaches.
